Sunday January 12
Really appreciated Ron's worship bulletin cover I love you (Isaiah 43:4 [CEB]) which was perfect for my sermon title...You Are Beloved. My point was that since we are joint heirs with Christ.(Romans 18:17)...we are beloved as we are baptized as Jesus was beloved by his Abba Father when he was baptized by his cousin, John the Baptist in the Jordan River. I shared from the theologian--John Cobb--who shared in his book--Jesus' Abba--how Jesus in his native language (Aramaic) addressed God as his Father-God Abba...like our word Papa...a much more personal and intimate way of referring to God (Romans 8:15)...I hope this was helpful. I thought we had a lively discussion during our 9:30 am discussion Mere Christianity...Hope others of you might consider joining us as Keith will be back to lead us in discussing Book 2, Chapters 1 & 2...The Rival Conceptions of God...The Invasion. Lona's leading us in singing some new hymns (to me) about baptism was very inspiring!
Sunday January 19
Looking forward to the fellowship luncheon after worship. Delicious food, a great social get-together, and an inspiring time together...What more could we possibly want than this?!? A little bit briefer worship service time, I'm planning on, will help those of us who will be leaving in time after the luncheon to have our first 3rd Sunday Gospel Sing, Worship with Communion 2 pm at Friendship Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center, 1500 Sunset Dr. Friendswood, TX 77546. Budd Eaton, Mary Sharp's brother who is a resident there, helped arrange this for us. My sermon for our worship service in Alvin will be based on the Gospel Lesson for Sunday--John 2:1-11--Some Saw Glory. It is the Gospel of John's story of Jesus turning the water into wine during a Wedding Feast in Cana in Galilee...It is the First Sign wrought by Jesus manifesting his GLORY and an awakening and confirming his disciples' faith in him. A good summary of my sermon is this; In Jesus, we are reconciled to God. Not because of what we do, but because of who he is, Glory.
So, y'all come, now, ye hear...Let's experience this Glory together so we can share it with others...

The Bible tells us to meet together as believers and to encourage one another.
The Bible instructs us to be in relationship with other believers. If we are part of Christ's body, we will recognize our need to fit into the body of believers. The Church is the place where we come together to encourage one another as members of Christ's body. Together we fulfill an important purpose on the Earth.
It is for our own good that God wants us in fellowship with other believers. We need each other to grow up in the faith, to learn to serve, to love one another, to exercise our spiritual gifts, and to practice forgiveness Although we are individuals, we still belong to one another.
